Media Relations Seminar
“Getting Publicity for Good Works: Finding the News Hook” Client: Serve DC
This one-hour seminar helped Americorps members and nonprofit leaders learn how to identify a news hook and approach the media with a story. They heard a Washington Post reporter’s perspective on how she looks for news stories. After the workshop, attendees wrote they, “learned what kills a news hook,” and “I learned the ins and outs of media do’s and don’ts.” They said they would use the knowledge acquired “to get coverage for my team’s literacy showcase” and “I will use it to get publicity for my City Year program.”
